We introduce ourselves
The showchoir Vocalists “Le Pleiadi“ was founded in 1984 by the director Maestra Lucia Targa already known for having founded the “Piccolo Coro Bolzano“ and who was one of the first women (if not the only woman at all) involved in such a project.
This “spectacular ensemble” certainly represents an atypical aspect in the environment of European Choirs, usually built by Choirs performing holy music, church chorals, folcloristic mountain songs or popular ballads. Since its foundation the Vocalists %[it]Le Pleiadi* are approaching a chorality and a repertoire which are different from these traditional ones – leaning on to vocal experimentations and harmonies in order to meet the spirit and complexity – vocal as well as cultural – of american pop songs and Jazz.
The interpretation of pieces originally written for orchestras using the sole voices, though dealing with music which is quite out of our traditions and rich in harmonizations, nuances and rhythms is quite an ambitious choice – it means an involving study of music, rhythms and voice particularities for each single member of this choir.
The repertoire we deal with nowadays comprehends music and songs out of the jazz standards as well as blues, american pop, latin-american music and spirituals. The single pieces are elaborated and harmonized due to our needs (a cappella mixed choir, 6-8 voices with solistic parts and improvisations).
Compositions of contemporary musicians such as Desmond, Ellington, Gershwin, Jobim, Waller and others are so transformed in something inique wthat underlines the gay spirit of the art director and the originality of the components of this eclectic group.
We have fun singing and our love for music and this repertoire in particular lead us to enrich the show with small choreographies meant to have fun and entertain the audience.
Different awards in competitions as well as the warmth of our audience – but also our fun and love for singing exploding joyfully in spontaneous outcomes lead this eclectic group to go on experimenting with harmonizations, improvisations and new choreographies.
Until now the Pleiadi produced two Cds: Shadow of Stars and Shadow of Stars II, which was recorded with the people you can see on stage today.
